A YOLO dataset is a folder of images with one .txt per image: class index, box centre and size, normalised to the image. All of the sets below are delivered that way, plus COCO JSON, so they load in Ultralytics trainers, RT-DETR, D-FINE and RF-DETR without conversion. Pose datasets use the YOLO-pose layout with 17 keypoints per box.

YOLO-format datasets: common questions
What is the YOLO dataset format?
One text file per image, one row per object: class index, then box centre x and y, width and height, all normalised to 0–1. A data.yaml lists the class names and the train and val folders.
Which YOLO versions work with these labels?
YOLOv5, YOLOv8, YOLO11 and YOLO26 read the format directly. The COCO JSON that ships alongside works with RT-DETR, D-FINE, RF-DETR and Faster R-CNN.
Do I need an Ultralytics licence to ship a model?
Ultralytics YOLO is AGPL-3.0 unless you buy an Enterprise licence; the dataset licence is separate. Our YOLO licence guide explains both.
